Should You Repair or Replace Your AC?
A useful starting point: if the cost of the repair exceeds 50 percent of the cost of a new system, and your AC is more than 10 to 12 years old, replacement often makes more financial sense over the long run. If the system is newer or the repair is straightforward, fixing it is usually the right call.
Sunset Air technicians will give you an honest assessment of both options. Because our technicians are not paid on commission, they have no incentive to push a replacement you do not need. We will tell you what we find, explain the tradeoffs, and let you decide.
If replacement is the better path, see our AC installation and replacement page for information on new system options and financing.

AC Repair and Maintenance FAQs
How quickly can Sunset Air respond to an AC repair call in Lacey or Olympia?
We offer same-day AC repair in Lacey, Olympia, and throughout Thurston County for most calls placed before noon. For after-hours emergencies — an AC that fails overnight or on a weekend — we are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call (360) 456-4956 and a dispatcher will connect you with a technician.
Do you repair all brands of air conditioners?
Yes. Sunset Air technicians are trained to diagnose and repair all major residential AC brands, including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, Bryant, American Standard, and Mitsubishi ductless systems. We are a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer but we work on whatever system you have.
My air conditioner is running but not cooling the house. What is wrong?
Warm air from a running AC is almost always caused by one of three things: low refrigerant from a leak, a dirty or blocked condenser coil that cannot release heat, or a failing compressor. A Sunset Air technician will diagnose the exact cause during the service visit. Adding refrigerant without first finding and fixing the leak is not a lasting solution — the refrigerant will simply leak out again.
How much does AC repair cost in Lacey, WA?
Most AC repairs in Lacey and Olympia fall in the range of $150 to $600, depending on the part and labor involved. Refrigerant leak repairs and compressor issues tend to be at the higher end. We provide an upfront estimate before any work begins — no surprise charges on your invoice. If the repair cost approaches the cost of a new system, we will flag that and give you both options so you can decide.
How often should I have my AC serviced?
Once per year, ideally in the spring before cooling season starts. An annual tune-up catches small issues before they become breakdowns, keeps your system running efficiently, and can extend the life of your equipment by several years. Sunset Air's Preferred Customer Service Agreement includes annual or semi-annual tune-ups with priority scheduling and a 15 percent parts discount.
