When to Replace Your Boiler

Of all the heating systems available on the market today, boilers have the reputation for being the sturdiest. This is because they have very few moving parts, which means fewer ways for problems to occur. Despite their longevity, however, boilers are just as susceptible to the ravages of time as any other system. Sooner or later, you will need to replace your boiler system. Read on for more information about the signs that you need a new boiler.

Declining Efficiency

Over time, a boiler will accumulate wear and tear on the various parts in its system from normal use. This wear and tear will make the system less efficient, which will force it to operate for longer to achieve the same results. The longer the boiler operates, the higher your heating bills will get. If you seem to be experiencing an unexplained rise in heating bills month-to-month, it may be that you need a new boiler.

Repairs

As mentioned above, boilers only rarely need repairs thanks to their construction. Older boilers, though, have so much wear on them that parts can eventually start failing in groups. If your boiler needs repairs every couple of months, especially if it’s a different part that breaks each time, then you should talk to a professional about installing a new system.

Age

Boilers are meant to last between 25 and 30 years. They can operate after that, of course. Technically, you could keep your boiler operating for many decades. However, once they get older than 30 years they often start to develop various issues like those listed above. If your boiler is older than 30 years, you might want to consider replacing it with a new one.
