If you’re using a ductless system to keep cool this summer, you need to keep an eye out for any problems that develop. The more you use your ductless system, the more worn out it becomes and the more likely it will be to develop issues. If you know what to look for, you’ll be able to identify these problems in time to have them fixed. Let’s take a look at some of the most common ductless issues you may run into.
Air Handler Issues
Every part of the ductless system that actually conditions your home contains an air handler, a part of the unit that circulates air throughout the room. Without the air handler, the system will not be able to properly cool the room. Inside each air handler motor is a series of oiled bearings, which helps to keep friction on the system low. As these bearings wear down, the friction on the air handler will increase. This creates a loud grinding sound. Eventually, the bearings will fail completely and the air handler will burn out. Call for repairs if you hear a grinding sound coming from your ductless system.
Refrigerant is the core of the ductless system. It is the fluid that the system evaporates and condenses to move heat from one place to the other. The system never consumes refrigerant, but recycles it back and forth during operation. If a leak develops in the refrigerant line, it will slowly drain the system of the fluid it needs to operate. Eventually, the refrigerant level can drop so low that the entire system breaks down. Call for repairs if you notice any fluid dripping from your system.
